Tasting it in Montreal was another step outside my comfort zone and my post about that adventure here “http://rosalindcummingsyeates.blogspot.com/2011/07/poutine-and-ice-wine.html remains one of the most popular posts on my blog. I think it’s fascinating what becomes a place’s signature dish and why.

I haven’t had the opportunity to visit Georgia yet, Amberr, but I’ve spent enough time in the southern US to know that in summer both the heat and the humidity can be insane. Depending on when/where you come to Canada the experience can be both awesome/terrifying. Getting off the plane in January in Winnipeg (dead center of the middle of Canada) in an average year can scare even the hardiest of travelers if you’re not familiar with the cold and snow. Last year they had an amazing winter though and had some of the nicest weather in years. On the other hand, if you land on either coast in the winter you could easily be walking around in a t-shirt.

Summer in Canada is generally nice across the board and most people that have visited it love it. The people are friendly and the country is so big that there is something to be had for everyone. You’ll find that in summer there is more things to see and do and that the people are the most energetic. That being said, Fall is my favorite time in Canada as things quiet down, the leaves start to change color and every day is truly cherished.

Lovely photos and vacation, though. Now I know if I ever want to visit Canada, it will be during warm weather.

I imagine cottage life is very similar no matter where you are in the world. Being surrounded by nature with water in some form or another and the ability to get away from everyday life are all that it takes. Being surrounded by friends and family is just a big plus. Enjoying the cabin in summer when winters are long and cold is especially nice and whether you’re braving the cold winter winds of Chicago or the deep chills of the Great White North, soaking in the sun and enjoying outdoor summer activities is vital to living happily in a cooler climate.

Rosalind, we’ve never really spent any time in Montérégie so unfortunately I can’t really recommend anything. Seeing that it is in Quebec though I would be remiss not to tell you to order a Poutine and maybe a smoked meat sandwich if you’re a meat eater. The French side in me loves Poutine to a degree that only pales in comparison to my love of family and travel. Have fun in Canada.

Chicago weather is very similar to Canada’s and I’m in the midst of soaking every inch of sun and outdoor activity like a crazy person. We usually go to Michigan for lake cottages but I do love Canada and your description sounds so inviting. There’s nothing like relaxing and just lolling about the lake. I’m headed to Montergie next month. Are you familiar with it and what would you recommend I do?
